Day #959 (Sun., Aug. 19, 2012) – Christmas In August

Our friends from Charlotte came to visit us today. They brought along so many nice toys for Katie that it is hard to even mention them all let alone thank them enough. We took them out to dinner but it will take a while for us to repay them for their kindness. I guess they can take some comfort in knowing just how much Katie enjoyed playing with all the toys and their son Timmy… It’s Christmas in August as far as Katie is concerned…

2012-08-19 – Katie’s New Kitchen

Two toys that Katie took particular note of were the nice toy kitchen (see photo to the left) and the toy workbench. Helen, Katie’s friend from down the road, has a kitchen and Katie enjoys playing with her kitchen whenever she is over. Now she will be able to invite Helen over to play with her kitchen. Another toy that Katie took a particular liking to (and which I was a bit surprised of) was the toy workbench. She enjoyed banging the little red peg into the hole with the little red hammer the most…but attempted the screwdriver and wrench as well.

With all these festivities and toys and excitement it was hard for my wife and I to calm Katie down in the evening. In the end my wife passed her off to me as I had a bit of a nap during the day. Now it was daddy’s turn. I tried the normal routine…the milk and snack, the reading before bed, the calming cartoons…but nothing was working. In the end, just before midnight I packed her into the car and we took a little drive around the neighborhood.

As we were driving I kept pointing out to Katie how dark it was and how all the deer and rabbits and animals were sleeping. I also pointed out how all the lights were off the houses and that the people were sleeping and getting rested for tomorrow. I then pointed out how her mother was sleeping and that daddy was getting sleepy. I then asked her if she was sleepy. Her reply? “No, I’m not sleepy”. Ahhhhhh…….

When we got home I asked Katie if she wanted to take some of her toys to bed with her. She picked out a little box of toy kitchen implements and she trotted off to bed. 12:30am on Monday morning and it is quiet in the nursery. Let’s hope this takes…
