Day #76 (Sat., Mar. 20, 2010) – The Squirrel

5:45am – Little Katie has been up for a while fussing and crying. I just tried a variation on a technique that I have found that has worked in the past. Namely:

1) Let her lie on her back and move her legs up and down…kind of like she is riding a bicycle. After this she will usually look up at you and smile and coo.

2) Here’s what I just tried that seems to clinch the deal. Sing her a lullaby while you stroke her head. This calmed her down enough that she started to sleep.

9:26am – Little Katie is up having breakfast. My wife just read that there is a civil war reenactment somewhere nearby today, do I want to go? Not really, we have enough battles around here with getting little Katie to behave… 🙂

I took little Katie for another trip in the harness this afternoon. My wife came with us today. It is 24 degrees outside this afternoon. It’s quite a workout carrying an almost 15lb weight around the neighborhood. We saw a squirrel in our travels (see photo to the right).

My wife was saying that little Katie no longer crying when she gets hungry. Instead she cries when you want her to eat and she doesn’t want to. Go figure…

10:50pm – My wife and I just got back from another drive with little Katie in tow. I was sitting little Katie on my knee and pointing in the direction where my wife usually sits. She was screaming and crying like mad…she missed the “milk truck”. When my wife arrived and sat down she stopped crying almost immediately. It was actually kind of amazing how quickly the crying switch went from “on” to “off”.

WHAT I LEARNED TODAY
