My wife and I had to notarize a document at the bank this morning so we both took Katie to school in my car and I dropped my wife off home afterwards. It was interesting to see the process for starting Katie’s school day.
For starters she has to wash her hands. Especially this time of year it is important that germs are kept to a minimum in the classroom so kids don’t pass around any germs. My wife and I were remarking that Katie has not missed any classes this year…no sickness or “whatever”. That’s quite an achievement for children I’m told.
The next step was to go down the stairs to Katie’s classroom. On the wall is a picture of each child. When you start class each day you take the picture off the wall and put it into a bucket. In this way the teachers know which children are missing.
As soon as she entered the room Katie went to a big table where they had pretend plush cakes and muffins (see photo to the right). Katie gave one to me and one to my wife and promptly sat down at the table. I guess she would be eating what was leftover.
My wife told me that one of the other teachers in the school recognized Katie by name. When my wife inquired she said that she knew the names of some of the children who were not in her class. We were wondering if Katie is such a handful that even other teachers know of her?
This evening Katie and I took turns pretending that we had the flu. Quite a strange thing to pretend…but at least it was not the real flu.
