Day #1105 (Sat., Jan. 12, 2013) – Off To The Zoo

We went to the Ashboro Zoo today. Katie was very excited all last night…it was hard to get her to go to bed.

My wife tells me that this was the first time Katie took a bag of toys with her on a trip. My wife gave her a baggie and asked her to fill it with the toys she wanted to take. True to fashion she filled it up with plastic toy animals. There was a huge hippo on the top. Katie asked me if we would be seeing any hippos…but I don’t think they have any at the Ashboro Zoo. Perhaps this is the latest animal she is into. Time will tell.

The giraffe’s were kept off the plains today. The keepers said that they were afraid they might injure their legs. The elephants (see photo to the left), zebras, lions and gorillas were out though.

It seems that Katie likes the train and bus rides to the animals and playing on the various animal sculptures, more than she does actually seeing the animals. She will rush up and look at the animal and then is ready to move on. Perhaps this is due to the fact that they are not very lively in the middle of the day. She did ask to go see the lemurs twice though…there were a number of them playing with each other.

On the trip back home Katie slept in the car. She would have slept for much longer but a troupe of Harley’s went zooming by. We thought we might stop off at Trader Joe’s for supplies but by the time we hit Chapel Hill she was very fussy. I dropped them off at home and went to get supplies at TJ’s myself.

WHAT I LEARNED TODAY
——————————
1) Katie seems to enjoy the trains & sculptures more than the zoo animals themselves.
