Day #1141 (Sun., Feb. 17, 2013) – Katie’s First Pillow Fight

I spent a lot of time playing with Katie today. I was talking to my wife how we needed to find an indoor activity that would be physical for Katie. Physical activity means that she gets tired out…and this leads to a desire to go to bed…

A pillow fight might be a good indoor activity to have with Katie. I got a real soft pillow out of Katie’s bedroom for her and her plush baby seal doll for me. I would lunge the seal at her and say “Seal wants to kiss you”. She would hit it with the pillow. She loved this game…in fact perhaps a bit too much. I decided to cut it off as she was getting too much fun out of hitting that pool hapless seal doll.

Katie asked for some cheese today and my wife brought her some avocado along with cheese. Katie said – “but I didn’t ask for avocado”. My wife then replied “I know but I know that you love avocados, so I thought I’ll surprise you”. Katie responded with “ok, I’ll try”!

Unlike yesterday Katie had a nap today. When she got up she was in a very happy and joyful mood. Unfortunately that would not last as the evening drew on.

I tried a number of innovative ways to entertain Katie today. I made a couple of dinosaurs out of construction paper (see photo to the right). I invented a game of bowling with the swimming noodle, some marbles, and a wooden ice cream figure from Katie’s number train. We even played with homemade fans…chasing tissue paper across the floor.

The end result of today’s fun? By the time evening drew near it was still hard to put her to bed. Around 10:45pm Katie was screaming in her bed “Mommy, I am getting cold. Maybe you need to take my temperature?”. My wife got the thermometer and took her temperature, which was normal. Katie responded with “thermometer says we need to play and watch TV”.

She eventually went to bed just before midnight.
