Day #1606 (Wed., May 28, 2014) – Spelling Out Katie
I took a vacation day off work today. Stephanie took care of Katie for most of the day. They went to Kidzoo.
I did go to Trader Joe’s to get supplies this afternoon. Bananas and yogurt for Katie was two priorities for today.
My wife has purchased a number of foam stickers for Katie. She already has some cutout molds so now Katie can have various foam objects to decorate with. My wife’s plan for the summer is to teach Katie her letters. So, step #1, she wrote out Katie on one of the arts & crafts pieces and asked her to do the same on hers. Katie did mix up the “i” and the “t” in Katie (see photo to the left)…but not a bad job for a beginner.
My wife and I got talking about how she was able to read when she was Katie’s age. Perhaps the reason Katie doesn’t read is that she realizes once she is able to read we won’t read to her as much. She sure loves her story time and will often interchange between “Read The Real Words” and “Read Made Up Words”.
