I am having knee surgery this afternoon so I took the day off from work. Little Bobby was up to see me off, but Katie was in school. I learned that Katie wanted to go to the hospital with me and see the operation. I would have given my blessing for this. I remember the time I was 15 years old and dad and I took the day off school to go “smelting”. I remember that much more than what I would have learned in school that day I am sure.
I stopped off at Whole Foods before the surgery to get some supplies. I got some quinoa baby food for little Bobby (see photo to the left).
Hannah drove my wife and I to the hospital in Northern Durham just before 2pm. There was a lot of paperwork to fill out and I was joking with the receptionist about the Powerball and she said she would pay for my operation if she won the $500 million dollars. I don’t know how many times I had to tell the people which knee I was having operated on…they wanted to be doubly, triply and mega sure I guess. The surgeon even put his “DD” initials on it.
It was only a 20 minute operation but I was out like a light for it all. In fact, I don’t even remember them asking me to count backwards. Having two kids will make you this tired I guess.
Hannah drove us back home when the operation was over. It was so drugged up I didn’t feel any pain in my knee. They gave me some oxycodone for my knee pain starting this evening.
