Day #170 (Tue., June 22, 2010) – Daddy Don’t You Walk So Fast

5:42am – It’s time for me to go to work again. Hard to believe…I’m the guy who had a hard time getting to work before 9:30am. Once you have a child it seems that your schedule gradually switches to “morning”…

Sounds like there was a lot going on at home today. I guess that little Katie is really into that teether I bought a while back. My wife also mentioned that:

The sun was shining on the playard this morning, so I put one of the mats on the kitchen floor and left her on her back while my mom was cooking. A few minutes later my mom came to my room all excited that Katie was on her tummy… Obviously, she is capable of doing that – just not willing to. πŸ˜‰

We got a lot of stuff in mail today… Baby cereal (oatmeal and brown rice), sippy cups, spoons, pure cooking books and a few shirts for sleep time. The Mozart Magic Cube (see photo to the left) came too!

The most exciting piece is “Around We Go” Activity Station, similar to the Jumperoo in the fact that it has a lot of activities, but little Katie can’t jump up and down in it.

Mom said that while she had Katie downstairs, she was in a very talkative mode and was explaining something very loudly. πŸ™‚ My mom was amazed by that.

As I was driving home this evening I heard a song on the radio. It was called “Daddy Don’t You Walk So Fast”. Here’s a link to YouTube. This song takes on a whole new meaning once you have a baby girl. No matter how many times I listen to it it makes me tear up to think of that poor little girl chasing after him… At least he went back to try to try and make it work… Here are the lyrics:

————————————————————————————————————————————-

The love between the two of us was dying
And it got so bad I knew I had to leave
But halfway down that highway when I turned around I saw
My little daughter running after me
Crying

Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, slow down some 'cause you're makin' me run
Daddy, don't you walk so fast

Now, it broke my heart to tell my little daughter
That her daddy had to run to catch a train
She had no way of knowin' I was leavin' home for good
I turned around and there she was again
As she said to me

Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, slow down some 'cause you're makin' me run
Daddy, don't you walk so fast

If only for the sake of my sweet daughter
I just had to turn back home right there and then
And try to start a new life with the mother of my child
I couldn't bear to hear those words again
She cried and said

Daddy, don't you walk so fast
(My daughter cried)
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, slow down some 'cause you're makin' me run
Daddy, don't you walk so fast

Daddy, slow down some 'cause you're makin' me run
Oh, daddy, don't you walk so fast
