We’ve had a lot of expenses as of late so it was a good time to teach Katie the importance of saving money and how “money does not grow on trees”. I decided to have a Daddy/Daughter Day to drive this point home.
Katie wanted to go get some trick or treat bags at the Dollar Store so as soon as Bobby was in bed for his nap this morning off we went. I drove out to the Dollar Tree near the O2 gym pool. While at the Dollar Store we bought two sets of treat bags. I told her that she could have one item and she chose some bubble soap in the shape of ice cream cones and I got Bobby a nerf sword. As we checked out I got Katie a tub of cotton candy as well (see photo to the right).
We then went to the McDonald’s just outside the store where Katie got a chocolate covered ice cream cone. I didn’t get anything and wanted to emphasize to Katie how we need to save money now that we have extra bills. While in line a tall guy was talking to his teenage daughter about customer service and the importance of it. This will perhaps be Katie and I in 10 years. While Katie sat in the booth and ate her cone I tried to give her some idea of inflation and how I used to pay 15 cents for what she was eating now. That means back then we could have bought nine ice cream cones for the same amount of money.
Next up was Lowe’s where I picked up a couple of fluorescent lights for my wife. We then drove home where Katie was eager to put treats into the Halloween bags she bought at the Dollar Store.
This evening I was wrestling with Bobby and he bit me on the foot. I gave out a scream and he started to cry. A hug from daddy and all was well. I wonder why he bites people?
