Day #2685 (Thu., May 11, 2017) – Mr. Rathbun Deals With The Problem

As I was driving Katie to Glenwood this morning we saw a surveyor outside the firehouse area with a surveyor’s tool. Katie didn’t know what it was so she asked me what he was doing with that telescope.

My wife sent an email to Mr. Rathbun this morning telling him everything that happened to Katie at school yesterday. In a nutshell:

  • During recess, Eleri made fun of Helen’s clothes, Katie stood up for Helen, told the teachers, got 10 chomps and extra recess time.
  • During the math class, Ella didn’t know the answer to a problem, asked Katie to help. When Katie told her what the answer was, Ella got really upset and thought Katie was trying to trick her. Then Ella wrote the cards to all classmates: ‘play a trick on Katie’. Max actually came to Katie and hit Katie’s face. Ellen and Kasey came to Katie, showed the cards they got and stayed with Katie to protect her. Which I think was super sweet of them… This happened while Ms. Han was on a lunch break and the new substitute teacher had the kids alone. I understand that she might have been overwhelmed, but it’s very disturbing that all this can happen during the class!
  • Ella told the teacher that Katie spat on her (Katie tells me that’s not true, and I tend to believe her). The teacher punished Katie with a recess loop. Katie is devastated that not only Ella could lie unpunished, but Katie got punished for something she didn’t do.

2017-05-11 - OrangesI was watching a YouTube video of “Johnny Johnny” with Bobby on my bed this evening. This version deals with Johnny asking for fruit and the picture of an orange came up. I asked Bobby if he wanted an orange. He looked at the video, and then at me, and said “Yes”, so off to the kitchen we went. He ate one, then two, and when I got back from the gym he was still eating oranges (see photo to the right). Unfortunately, after he was done eating he started to throw them around the living room. I don’t remember Katie throwing food…at least not this much…

My wife had a big talk with Katie just before bedtime this evening and Katie told her what happened at school. As soon as Mr. Rathbun got our email he went and got Katie. He asked her if she wanted to bring any of her friends with her and Katie mentioned all of the girls who were involved with the problems of the last few days. Katie relayed all the events to Mr. Rathbun. Eleri apologized to Helen for saying her clothes were ugly. Ella refused to apologize for the letter that she distributed (although she did send Katie an apology letter later this evening).
