Day #2716 (Sun., Jun. 11, 2017) – Chore Spreadsheet

My wife and I are becoming increasingly concerned that Katie doesn’t understand the value of things. When we take her out she is not content with what we buy her…she wants an upgrade or something else. When we take her somewhere, on the drive home she will ask if she can do this or that. We want to instill a sense of value and responsibility in her life, so we decided to give her some chores. She is old enough to do chores and help out around the house.

2017-06-11 - SpreadsheetWhen my wife went to bed for a nap I got down on the floor with Katie and we came up with a chore list on a red piece of construction paper (see photo to the right). Her current chores are to:

  • Make her bed
  • Arrange her shoes
  • Feed the cats
  • Take out the compost bin (on Saturdays)

As a reward for doing her chores this week, and to get her into the habit, I told her that her reward would be to purchase her a wand at Great Wolf Lodge next weekend so she could take the MagiQuest Adventure. I told her that she could be certain that if she didn’t do her chores I would make sure that she didn’t get this wand.

Katie is actually excited about doing her chores and filling out the chart. She needs structure and when you tell her the rules of the game and how to succeed she is happy to oblige.

It’s nice that Bobby is able to sleep in his new bed. That will make it all that much easier when we go to Great Wolf Lodge next weekend. My wife took the crib apart and put the components in the storage shed.
