My wife and I went to “Surgery Class” at the Hillsborough campus of UNC this morning. The class was 90 minutes long and covered various areas such as checking in, the operation, physical therapy, food services and environmental services (i.e.: taking out the trash). It was overall a good class…something that every hospital should consider giving for their surgery patients. One of the slides said “You will be in pain” and that they strive to be in the 4/10 pain scale area. I didn’t like that much.
After class my wife and I ate in the hospital cafeteria. It has a good selection of healthy food, unlike the options provided at Wake Med during my gallbladder operation.
After class we went to Sam’s Club so I could order my new “distance” glasses. We then went to “Kid2Kid” where my wife picked up some clothes and I found a plane and spaceship for Bobby (see photo to the right). I also found a cat game for Katie, but it was unfortunately not packed with the others so I had to go back to the store again to get it.
This evening Katie was very upset and would not stop crying. She was saying how much she was going to miss me. We told her that the hospital is only a few miles down the road and that we would be able to communicate via Skype for the couple of days I was away.
