Day #2900 (Thu., Dec. 14, 2017) – Non-Christmas Concert

We met with Sharon this morning. She said that we don’t want to prohibit Katie from playing with anyone like Eleri and Sophi at this age. Let her form opinions for herself on what is good and bad. Instead of giving her directives, provide an open environment where she feels free to come and talk to us and try to help walk her through the thought process to solve problems.

2017-12-14 - Holiday ConcertAfter this meeting, my wife and I went to Carolina Cafe to get some breakfast and prepare for our meeting with Katie’s English teacher, which was at 11:30 am. A lot of things came out at this particular meeting. In particular, she always knew that Katie was sensitive, but she had no idea she didn’t like school and would get sick in the car on the way to school. She told us that she had a number of areas in common with Katie, and I think that this meeting will help her to be more sensitive to Katie’s needs. We also learned that she didn’t want to be in the Mandarin Chinese Dual Program and took this position only because there was not a regular English teacher position at Glenwood. She might transfer out next year which means Bobby will not have her as a teacher when he goes.

This evening we all went to see the “Non-Xmas” concert at Katie’s school. Katie sang with the other 2nd graders in a number of songs. She also danced with Murren during one particular skit. Bobby was a lot of trouble as he wanted to be with Katie and would not settle down (see photo to the right). He seems to have absolutely no fear of crowds or being in front of people, which will serve him well moving forward.
