Day #10 (Wed., Jan. 13, 2010) – “Diaper Genie” the Great!

4:30am – My wife and I are up again. Time for little Katie’s feeding. She has been sleeping for much longer intervals now, but sometimes she needs to be fed more than once before she is full enough to sleep. We still have the following cycle, even though it’s getting better: (1) Feed the baby, (2) Burb the baby, (3) Put baby in crib, (4) IF baby sleeps, we sleep (5) IF baby awake, repeat #1 til #4 is true.

5:00am – Since I’m up I wanted to talk a bit about a great little device that my wife purchased before the baby arrived. If you are expecting a little bundle of joy you will want one of these. In other words, you don’t want a “loaded” baby without one of these little devices at the ready! We have it sitting next to the changing table, and it makes a somewhat disgusting job somewhat tolerable. It’s a “used diaper” holder. It stores this long tube of light green plastic, kind of like an endless garbage bag. When you have a used diaper, you take said item and put it into the top of the dispenser. With a little twist of the handle at the top, this used diaper gets wrapped inside a section of this plastic (ahhh…fresh air). When this dispenser is full, you simply open the bottom and all the little greenish-tinged remnaints are ready to be thrown into the trash. The wonders of modern science!

10:55am and the little chipmunk is squeaking in the crib next to our bed. I suspect breakfast will be served soon!

3:00pm – I’d like to be able to write that little Katie just did something incredibly spectacular, but today is turning to into another regular day. My wife and I are starting to settle into a routine, and that is due to the fact that little Katie is starting to settle into hers.

5:30pm – The last of the homemade burrito’s have disappeared. They were here a minute ago, but now there are only empty plates and full stomachs. Where could they have gone? Little Katie didn’t take them. She ate her fill of the daily special and is sleeping in her crib right now.

6:50pm and little Katie is up for another feeding. I find that if I point her face towards mine (and at the right distance between us) she will try to mimic me as I open my mouth and then close it…at least it seems as though she is…

7:10pm – Time for little Katie’s changing. She was nursing and made some more room for food, so I had to take out the garbage. I find she doesn’t cry any more when she is being changed. She’s getting more acquainted with her new world. My little girl is growing up…

8:00pm – I created a “collage” of baby photos to take with me. People always ask me to bring “photos of little Katie”, so now I have them.
