I drove our van out to the hospital in Hillsborough this morning. I will not be able to drive for 6+ weeks from now as I will be on narcotics due to the surgery.
A bit of “deja vu” as I was in the same hospital to have the same surgery on the other knee roughly six months ago. The routine was roughly the same. I got checked in and prepped for surgery. I learned that the anesthesiologist’s assistant was named Dr. Homan, just like our former pediatrician. Small world.
After surgery, they wheeled me to my room at the end of the hallway. It was a “negative pressure room” and as it was “out of the way”, much quieter, although smaller, than the room I had around six months ago.
The kids came to see me this afternoon. They were both excited to see that daddy was okay. They enjoyed chocolate milk and ice cream from the fridge and enjoyed climbing the “Hospital Mountain” (see photo to the left) after the visit.
Hospital food, basically like ordering at a restaurant, is one of the benefits of this hospital. My first meal was pizza.
What an interesting stay… They are short on staff. The alarm went off as my intravenous drip was low and it took 30 minutes for someone to shut it off. Even then, it was a passerby, not a nurse. The nurses assistant had a hard time putting the blood pressure monitor on my arm and didn’t notice that I had an ice machine til her second or third visit to see me.
I did enjoy watching reruns of “Naked and Afraid” on cable tv. We don’t get cable tv at home. I sure don’t miss all those commercials.
