Bobby has been wanting to ride a bus for quite some time. Today was to prove to be the day!
I drove the kids in the Camry to the edge of MLK and parked the car there. We then walked across the street and got a bus to downtown Chapel Hill, and got out at the intersection of Columbia and Franklin (see photo to the right).
The kids played around with the “tree” sculptures outside the museum when Bobby expressed his desire to get back on the bus. So, we got on a bus heading towards Carrboro and actually didn’t get off it til we were back where we started… We effectively stayed on the bus while it turned around and heading back.
The plan was to have some ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s, but since it was only 10:30 am they had not opened yet. Yogurt Pump was not open either, so we went to Sutton’s Drugstore. This is actually a better idea because neither kid had sat at a drugstore counter before…and they will all be gone soon.
We each had ice cream. Bobby had reese’s in butter pecan, I had butterfinger in peach ice cream, and Katie just wanted plain vanilla. I was horrified that they served it in a coffee mug. It’s a drugstore “soda fountain” counter. Couldn’t they at least have had ice cream bowls? Anyway, Bobby didn’t want his so I ended up eating it as well.
We then boarded the bus for home. Bobby got to pull the ringer to stop the bus at our stop. Actually he was a bit slow so Katie rang it first…
I would have thought that Bobby would have been exhausted after such a long day, but he didn’t nap today. I tried twice but he would not go. Go figure…
