My wife got some “Slimy Sand” for the kids via Amazon. It came today (see photo to the right). It’s interesting stuff. If you squeeze it tight it will form a hard ball, but it will soon flow out like a liquid. The kids had a blast.
Roy Cooper, the governor of North Carolina, cancelled school today.
Bobby was sick this afternoon and we gave him a bucket in case he had to throw up. I knew something was up when he was munching on “giraffey” earlier in the day. In the end he didn’t throw up, he fell asleep, so my wife took him to bed early this evening.
President Trump has posed the question about drinking “disinfectant” to combat clorox…
We got an email from Bobby’s teacher Mary this evening… Here’s her response to the governor closing the schools down.

Dear Parents,
I was just as sad as you were to hear Roy Cooper cancel the rest of the school year this afternoon. I absolutely know that it is the right thing to do, but I somehow held out hope that we would be able to come back to preschool for at least a week or two. I hate that the kids will not get to experience all of the fun end of the school year traditions, especially those moving on to new schools in the fall.
I was anticipating this announcement for the past week or so, so I’ve set up a Zoom UCP Board meeting for this Monday evening. We will be deciding the best ways to get your child’s things back to you and discussing options we might have to get together for small parties later this summer. One thing for sure is that you can request a May 2020 tuition refund. Normally this deposit is non-refundable, but then we’ve never had to cancel all of May. Please reply to this e-mail and let me know if you’d like all or some of your tuition returned. I can’t promise how long it will take the church/UCP Treasurer to write all of the checks, but I will help with this process.
The church/UCP did not get a PPP loan in the first go round, but we have not given up hope yet that we might still get one. The teachers will get paid through May using our savings. It’s funny, I never would have anticipated that the savings would be needed for a pandemic, but I’m so thankful we have it.
IF you are interested in any children’s books since the library is still closed, I will be placing a final Scholastic Book order this Tuesday morning. As always, no pressure what so ever to order, only wanted to let you know about that option. The turn around is a little over a week once I order and I can get the books to you along with your child’s spare clothes, artwork, etc.
This Saturday morning special might be excellent for preschoolers:
The Sesame Street Gang Will Explain COVID-19 to Kids in CNN Special
I will e-mail next week with details from the Board meeting, meanwhile just let me know your decision about May’s tuition.
I miss you all like crazy and wish you well,
Mary
