Day #4167 (Thu., Jun 3, 2021) – Katie’s Poems

Katie was up in the middle of the night with sore ears. She hasn’t been cleaning the wax out of her ears, so she has an ear infection. My wife took her to see the doctor today. He gave her some medicine…

Writing Activity #4: Identity Poem
(this is the one Katie submitted for a contest and got the 2nd place)
Write an IDENTITY from the point of view of: your birthstone, lucky number, power animal, an object, something in nature, a feeling, a place, an ideas, or your favorite food. ** Use all the prompts to make your poem.

Start with a title: I am the Ocean. – 14 lines

I am the ocean.
My waves shatter the breeze and sandy shores when they crash.
I’m pretty good at holding ships, guiding them to the safety of the shore when the thunder is fierce.
I like to swallow sand castles, when they lie too close to my currents.
I don’t believe in humans dumping trash into my care.
I believe other bodies of water exist, just out of my reach.
My friends think I’m salty, literally.
I come from rain and thunderstorms, slowly but surely building me up until I become who I am.
I always shatter the sandy shores with my waves.
I never liked cars. Their oil gets into my waves and hurts my animals.
I want to protect my animals from the waste humans and cars give me.
Sometimes I wonder what life would be like as a human.
Other times I think how grateful I am to be me.
I live for my animals, islands, and humans.

Katie’s Second Poem:

Hope

Hope is like dawn that soars in the sky,
and the colored birds that start to rise.
Hope is like a people filled beach,
and a swarm of fish, just out of reach.
Hope is like pines peeking above,
and my furry friends, run under the leafy cove.
Hope is like the peaks of the snow,
and the mountain goats, not far below.
Hope is like deserts of sand,
and a patterned snake, ruling the land.
Hope is like the grasslands of gold,
and my favorite prairies, the grasslands they hold.
Hope is like a forest of places,
and a handful of creatures, with handfuls of faces.

(PS: This poem was inspired by nature and animals, because animals give me hope!! :D)

Bobby and I played with the transformer toys that I use to teach the Chinese kids (see photo to the right).

It was raining all day today. After running after tennis balls Maple decided that she would lie down in a mud puddle to cool off. What a mess she brought inside!
