Day #310 (Tue., Nov. 9, 2010) – “The Lonely Goat Herd”
When you think of all the toys that are available to little boys and girls these days it’s quite remarkable what technology has brought. When I was growing up you had a doll that when you pulled the string emitted some sayings…but that was it. Nowadays you have electronic guitars and pianos, talking robots and barns that produce animal sounds. Having said that…
What is little Katie’s favorite toy these days? A simple diaper box (see photo to the right). My wife left a box of diapers in the playyard today and little Katie had a great time crawling all over it. Little Katie is trying to stand up more and more and this little box assists her in this task. It is a multi-functional toy. When I started to use it as a drum by banging on it, little Katie copied me.
When I was a boy we got a fridge one day and the box that it came in provided me with hours and hours of entertainment. One day it was a fort. The next day it was a spaceship, then a submarine, then a treehouse. Sometimes the most simple of toys are the best. They let your imagination go wild.
This evening we were watching some YouTube videos on our HDTV (courtesy of TiVo). Little Katie loved the Sound of Music Video “The Lonely Goatherd“.
