I dropped Bobby off at Glenwood this morning. Today is “Art Day” so Bobby will hopefully get to see Miss Britt in person today.
I picked up Bobby at 2:40 pm, as usual, today. On the drive home we talked about Friday the 13th and how it supposed to be unlucky. I didn’t have an answer for him when he asked “why”… I looked it up when I got home.
“The Western superstition that the date brings misfortune can be traced back hundreds, if not thousands, of years. On their own, the number 13 and Friday are traditional signifiers of bad luck, so their combination on the calendar strikes a special fear into some.
Some believe this is unlucky because one of those thirteen, Judas Iscariot, was the betrayer of Jesus Christ. From the 1890s, a number of English language sources relate the “unlucky” thirteen to an idea that at the Last Supper, Judas, the disciple who betrayed Jesus, was the 13th to sit at the table.
Friday’s reputation is equally poor. Not only does Geoffrey Chaucer’s 14th-century story collection The Canterbury Tales state all “mischance” falls on Fridays but it was also the day set aside for prisoner hangings in Ancient Rome and early modern Britain.”
They had chicken waffles for lunch today. During art class Bobby made 3D things out of Play Doh.
This evening my wife took Katie to see a violin teacher (a Korean who has won many awards) that her teacher recommended. Tomorrow my wife will also be taking Bobby to see her give instruction to high school students. As such, I put Bobby to bed this evening. We read a bit of “Carnival At Candlelight” (see photo to the right).
