We woke up early this morning in order to finish packing and our “attempt” to catch the first ferry of the day off the island. We didn’t, by about a minute or so, so we had to wait an hour for the next ferry.
It’s Father’s Day today so my wife and kids gave me an assortment of handmade letters and cards (see photo to the right). I read them while we waited for the ferry to get off Ocracoke.
We needed gas so we got some at Frisco and then drove to Manteo. At Manteo we got some take out food from McDonald’s. We were thinking of taking the food down to the waterfront to eat, but decided it would be best to just “power through” to Chapel Hill.
After Manteo my wife took a turn at the wheel and after about a 30 minute power nap I was good to go again. I drove the van the rest of the way home to Chapel Hill. Maple slept in the back for the most part while the kids played on their iPads.
We got home around 3:30 pm and my wife and I went right to bed. We were exhausted. My back is still hurting from that “marshmallow” mattress I slept on during our Ocracoke stay, so I stayed at home while my wife went to Trader Joe’s to get some supplies for the kid’s lunches tomorrow. They are going to viola/violin camp!
