My wife took Katie to Trader Joe’s this morning to pick up some flowers as Miss Patricia’s daughter, Abigail, is giving a violin concert. While there they picked up some supplies, especially the little tubs of yogurt that Bobby loves so much.
When they got home the kids got out the Nerf guns and played with them in the front yard (see photo to the left). The ever present Maple was there dropping tennis balls and hoping for a “throw” and barking when she felt she had waited long enough. Ginger, just outside the dog gate, barked away as well till we opened up the door and let her in.
Black bears were spotted on MLK not too far from our house. Here’s the report:
Some Chapel Hill residents have had a bear-y good weekend.
According to the Chapel Hill Police Department, and video shared by one resident, there have been multiple sightings of a black bear off of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near Homestead Park overnight Friday and Saturday. Chapel Hill Police officers reported sightings at the intersection of MLK Boulevard and Blossom Lane and another sighting along Dixie Lane, which is across the street from Homestead Park’s athletic fields.
Additionally, one Chapel Hill resident shared a video he says came from his front door camera at the Riggsbee Mobile Home Park — just north of the areas where police officers reported seeing a black bear.
Black bears are native to the state, but are not typically found in the Piedmont, according to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. The bears, which can be identified by their darker coats and tall, rounded ears, are known to use their strong sense of smell and hearing to search for food — which can often come from people’s backyards or driveways.
This is the last week of school for the kids and are they ever excited. I tease Bobby that we think we might sign him up for Mr. Yang’s “Chinese Culture” summer school, but he realizes it’s a joke by now… He will be going to karate camp and Spence’s Farm camp though. Katie is signed up for horse riding lessons. Of course we will also be planning our daily visits to the Clark Pool if the weather gets too hot. Only one week left! Let the summer break begin!
