This morning I showed Bobby a plastic model kit that I found in the boxes I was organizing yesterday. It’s a plastic 1955 Chevy model kit. I also have some Testor’s paint and a tiny spray paint kit. Bobby expressed a desire to put it together with me, so I ordered some Testor’s plastic cement from Amazon and we’ll assemble it out on the patio. Why? As you may recall, these model kits from the 1960’s had glue they recommended you use in a well ventilated area.
I also found a couple of AM/FM radios in the boxes yesterday. I gave them to Bobby to play with.
When Katie got up we played some charades. I got the ideas from Bard, printed them out, cut them out, and we drew them out of a box to determine which one to act out.
This afternoon I took Bobby to Duck Donuts for Daddy/Son Chat Day #2 (see photo to the left). He had a cinnamon bun donut with a hot chocolate and I had a maple bacon donut with a large cappuccino. Bobby wanted some of the bacon bits off the top of my donut, so he “suspended” his vegetarianism for a while. He said that he loved bacon and would get this donut next time! I talked to the store manager about the job application process. She told me that you had to be 14 years old, and they started you off at $10/hour, and you could eat as many donuts during the day that you wanted. Bobby is eager to get a job here once he turns 14! 🙂
While at Duck Donuts Bobby and I talked about “Not Feeling That You Are Alone”. I told him that it was important for him to understand that there were all kinds of people out there who he could talk to and lean on if he had questions and problems. I told him that when I was growing up the idea was that a man should be the strong/silent type and figure things out for themselves. I told him that I wished I had reached out for advice and help rather than try to figure things out for myself.
This evening I took Bobby to his martial arts class. Mr. Choy’s wife put his name on his gi with a permanent marker, and he received his first stripe on his white belt. On the drive home I told him how great it was for him to take these classes and I wished I had when I was his age. When we got home I asked Katie if she was interested in taking martial arts classes and she said that it sounded like a nightmare to her.
