Day #5048 (Wed., Nov. 1, 2023) – UV Bracelets

Katie is home sick today but Bobby mustered up the energy to go to school. Katie’s friends have made it a contest to see if she can make it to 10 days of perfect attendance. She accomplished this goal on Friday, but now she is back to being sick again. I wonder if the Vegas bookies will chime in at some point and give odds.

I picked Bobby up at Spence’s Farm this afternoon. He carved a pumpkin (see photo to the left), but it didn’t turn out to his liking. His mother made him some hamburgers to munch in the car on the way home.

After we left the lot, and by the time we were near the horse barn he mentioned that he forgot his jacket so we turned around and went back and got it as it’s getting cold outside.

Bobby said that the kids at school today were telling him how great school was yesterday, which he missed as he was sick. I guess they had a party and carved pumpkins and made UV bracelets.

On the drive back home I told Bobby how we used to celebrate Halloween when I was his age. Same concepts but much more toned down. For example, I relayed how Zellers used to sell little Halloween costumes in a box that consisted of a plastic mask and thin cloth fiber costume, nothing like the elaborate costumes they have today. I also told him that it is much colder in Canada when Halloween comes around so my father used to drive the car when I was young and mom and my sister and I would jump out, go to a few houses and get treats, and then get back into the car to warm up for our next destination.

I also told Bobby about how people will have a disaster when they try to fry a frozen turkey in hot oil. This evening we watched a couple of disaster videos on YouTube about this subject.
