Day #382 (Thu., Jan. 20, 2011) – Eczema…Schmeczema

Katie slept for 6 1/2 hours last night, so my wife was pretty happy about that. When Katie sleeps it means that my wife can sleep. Such is life.

My wife took Katie to the doctor today. Katie got a blood sample taken (see photo to the right). She is 30.5″ (90 percentile) and 22 lbs (65 percentile).

The doctor said that Katie has eczema. My wife is researching various lotions to resolve the problem (she doesn’t want to use hydrocortisone on her). One website says that switching from cows to goats milk might help. Our friend in Charlotte said that the best milk options for Katie are in this order:

1. Goat’s milk
2. Cow’s buttermilk
3. Non-homogenized milk (in glass bottles from Harris Teeter)
3. Organic homogenized milk (that’s what she gets now)

We definitely need to try goat’s milk as well as cheese, yogurts, etc…

I had to go to an HOA meeting so there was little time to play with Katie this evening. I did play with her for a bit when I got home. My wife “retired’ the play zoo and brought out the play farm instead. Katie enjoys pushing the various buttons and farm animal sounds such as a pig and “Old McDonald Had A Farm” are entertaining for her.
