Today is the big day when we move all our belongings to Canada!
I dropped Bobby off at Glenwood, then Katie at Glenwood so that my wife could finish packing the last few odds and ends.
After dropping the kids off I stopped off at Panera Bread to pick up a large black coffee for my wife at her request. When I got home, Nick the truck driver and his three helpers were there. Nick is from Winnipeg, and he managed to park the 18-wheeler “Freightliner” truck in front of our driveway (see photo to the left). I remembered to park the cars outside the driveway before they arrived in case we need them.
Next up was getting tip money for the guys out of the ATM. We decided on $120 for nick and $60 for each of his helpers. We also bought them lunch, which turned out to be much more of an ordeal than originally intended…
One of the guys didn’t want pizza. So we settled on subs from subway. I had problems with their app, and they wanted to charge $30 extra because it was a catering order. So, I decided to just order at the counter of the Weaver Dairy Road location. Six assorted foot long subs, which I cut in half when we got home to give the guys variety. I stopped off at the Food Lion at the other end of the mall for soft drinks, chips, and cookies. I ended up saving about 1/2 by doing this. The guys really seemed to like it.
They were quick and done soon after 3 pm. My wife huddled with Maple and Ginger in Katie’s room to pack some odds and ends and so that they would be out of the way. I had to pick both kids up and as soon as we arrived home the moving guys were done.
It was an adjustment to not having our furniture and tv”s, but Katie organized what we had left in the living room.
i went to Aldi tonight for milk and bread, but forgot that they close at 8pm, so I ended up at Harris Teeter. I got some “Bomp Pops” popsicles at Katie’s request. I also picked up plenty of Yoplait yogurts as Bobby loves them so much, and some mascarpone cheese for my wife.
