Day #5251 – (Wed., May 22, 2024) – Montana –> Idaho

One of the big changes from our usual routine this morning was to stop off at a restaurant and have breakfast. Up until now, we have been eating mostly by take outs from fast food joints and truck stops. There was a bit of a delay because Katie didn’t sleep too much last night (snoring problems), and forgot where she put the car keys. Incidentally, they were in the backpack…

We drove to downtown Laurel and ate at “The Cracked Egg”. There was a little activity sheet with crayons for the kids to play with while waiting for our food to come (see photo to the left). Unfortunately, this was one of the worst breakfast places I have been to in a while… For example:

  • Small servings, you could choose toast or hash browns, but not both.
  • Katie said that the fruit cup she ordered was sour, and it only had one measly grape for color.
  • I asked for wheat toast and got white toast.
  • She served me lukewarm coffee, and had to ask her to bring some cream.
  • Jam for the toast was on a shelf behind us.
  • Bobby didn’t like his chocolate chip pancakes.
  • My wife’s omlette didn’t have the best appearance.

On a positive vein, it was cheaper than the Hen & Hog in Courtenay, and we all loved the bacon. So much in fact that we ordered three extra servings.

After breakfast we stopped off at Lucky Lil’s Casino at 401 S. 1st Avenue. to purchase some gas and lottery tickets. In Montana, Powerball tickets are $1 more than they are in other states.

I picked up another round of lottery tickets mid-state? I had to get 3 quarters form my wife and a quarter from my backpack in order to buy the last “Mega Million” ticket. I have no more US$, so no more lottery tickets for me! That’s fine. We have run out of states in which you don’t have to declare you’re a winner anyway.

We stopped off at Perkins in Butte for lunch to take out. My wife had the meatloaf, Bobby had a hamburger, Katie had some chicken noodle soup, and I had a BLT. I asked the cashier about Evel Knievel as this was his hometown. She told me that they used to have “Evel Knievel Days”, but no longer as his days as family will not let them use his name anymore. She told me that she likes to hunt deer and that it costs about $300 to get a “tag” to hunt.

There were long and windy roads and rain through the mountains in western Montana. We could go 80 mph, but with such horrible road conditions, I was slower.

2024-04-23 - Kellogg House

As we wound through the mountains we found a little store for a bathroom break in Alberton, Montana. My wife, impressed with the oatmeal she has been getting at McDonalds, decided to get some instant packages at this tiny little store to give a try.

We arrived at our Air B&B in Kellogg, Idaho (see photo to the left) much earlier this evening than we arrived at our Air B&B last night, which was great! This new place has a lovely fireplace. Since we got in so early we were able to go get groceries at a local grocery store. We picked up bananas, milk, yogurt, orange juice, Cheerios, and a BIG bag of jalapeno potato chips for daddy!

NVDA reported their earnings after the bell today, along with announcing a 10/1 stock split.

Beds in this particular Air B&B were limited, so I slept with Bobby. My wife camped out on the fold out couch, and Katie had a room which she shared with Batman.
