Day #5280 – (Thu., June 20, 2024) – Courtenay Recycling!

First Time Test: After my shower in the “Barn Suite” this morning I tried some “Soap Scum” remover… Let’s see if this makes the shower easier to maintain moving forward.

This afternoon my wife and I had an appointment with Karl at RBC to get Canadian Master Cards. We don’t really need them, but we want to build up our Canadian credit rating and figured that it would be better to do this now rather than later.

Afterward we went to “Yummies & Gyros” for a gyro. They don’t accept credit cards, so luckily one of our RBC debit cards worked… Which one, we’re not sure. (NOTE: It was my RBC account and not my wife’s, but I didn’t put my pin in…worry some!)

Next up was the recycling depot just down the street. One of the guys there gave us a bit of a tour and explained how the whole process worked. We’re going to see if we can set up an account online. This allows you to put all recyclables in one bag, and return them. They will figure out what is what. It might mean you will lose a cent or two, but will sure make the whole process hassle free.

There was an old Mercedes convertible out front (see photo to the right). Not a red one, but an old Mercedes convertible nonetheless. There seem to be a lot of older cars here in Courtenay, some antique and some just old. On a side note, I saw another Tesla Cybertruck yesterday when I was driving about with my son!

When we arrived home my wife took Katie in the van to Home Depot to pick out some plants for our “farm”.

At dinner time tonight the kids were singing and acting out a Tic Toc video that featured the old song “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys.

This evening I went shopping. My daughter came along. First up? Home Depot where I picked up a chain extension for the fan in Bobby’s room so that he can reach it (see photo to the left).

Next on the agenda was the liquor store where I bought some Moosehead Ale. I asked the lady at the counter about “5 Star Whiskey” and apparently they don’t sell it. They had “5 Star Brandy”, but that is not the same thing… I see via an online search that it is still a product. My father used to drink “5 Star Whiskey”, that’s why the inquiry.

At Thrifty’s I picked up some chopped steak, frozen fries, watermelon drink, and some potting soil for my wife.

On the way home Katie and I drove by her High School and up the driveway. There were a number of kids in the parking lot, so perhaps they just finished up some after school activity. At the end of the driveway there were a number of boys playing basketball. Katie was horrified that all the kids were looking at her, and I told her that it was probably because they were wondering if it was another one of their friends who was showing up. They will totally forget her and her face and the van by the time school rolls around in two months!
