Day #5309 – (Fri., July 19, 2024) – Crowdstrike Strikes!

I woke up in the middle of the night to learn that the tech world has fallen apart. Apparently Crowdstrike uploaded some updates to Microsoft Windows that was faulty, and it brought their systems down. This lead to airlines, hospitals, and retail outlets being shut down as well. Crowdstrike says that it might take weeks to get things back to normal. Hopefully my wife won’t need to go to Chapel Hill to get her computer fixed!

With her work computer down, my wife took the day off, which started with taking the kids to Mount Washington this morning (see photo to the right), and after lunch, to Comox Lake. They really enjoyed Mount Washington, but the water was too cold in Comox Lake to make swimming comfortable.

Speaking of lakes, I plan to take Bobby fishing at some point. I’m hearing Maple Lake near Canadian Tire has accessibility points for people with leg problems, i.e.: knee replacements… This “Power Bait” stuff is supposedly great trout bait, and Walmart sells it as well… Maybe I’ll go to Canadian Tire and pick up a rod and ask them about fishing at Maple Lake…it’s practically behind the store…

My wife mentioned to me that Bobby is often at the shore making stuff out of mud and sand, so we’re thinking of getting a bag of sand for him to make stuff in… Where to put it so that it doesn’t wash away in the rain? Developing…

This evening I took a bowl of mashed potatoes that I made in the Instant Pot and went down to the main house from the “Barn Suite” to have dinner with the family. I ended up watching some Red Bull “Soap Box Derby” videos with my daughter as I munched away.
