Day #5347 – (Mon., Aug. 26, 2024) – Fishing Rod!

Our guests, Christina and Darius, overslept this morning. They got away late for their trip back to Victoria! They will probably visit again sometime.

I stopped by the library in Courtenay to pick up two “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” books (see photo to the left) that my wife had reserved.

I went to “Gone Fishin'” in Courtenay today to ask about fishing in the Comox Valley. Jeff, one of the sales associates, was very helpful. He told me that once I turn 65 a “fresh water” fishing license will be $5. Before that, $41! Bobby gets to fish for free till he turns 18 or so, at which point he will need to pay for an adult license. I wasn’t going to buy any equipment, but he was so helpful that he set the rod up with me and explained how it all fit together, and gave me this special type of bait that I guess trout really love. The whole kit (see photo to the right), including the fishing license, cost roughly $100!

I plan to go fishing on Marshall Lake sometime in the near future to see where the best fishing spots are, and to test the rod and equipment out. I want Bobby’s first experience with fishing to be a good one. If his first experience is not a good one, he probably won’t want to go again.

It rained most of the day today so I didn’t let the chickens out. When it rains, I have learned from experience, they will huddle in a corner rather than risk getting wet to go back to the safety of their coop!
