Day #5351 – (Fri., Aug. 30, 2024) – Sports Thrift Store Clothes

This morning I fed the chickens just regular old-fashioned oats for the first time and they gobbled it up. It reminded me of the Quaker Oats that we used to feed our little chicks back in Nova Scotia every Easter!

This morning my wife took Katie and Bobby to “Sports Thrift Store” (the basement of the store in Courtenay where we bought the kid’s bikes). They got a warm hoodie and two jackets for Katie and a pair of waterproof pants for Bobby.

The photo to the left shows Katie’s drawing of Timothy Chalomet. Here’s the assignment that Mr. Chris, Katie’s art teacher, gave her: “In 4-5 sentences, describe your pieces that you have submitted for the art show and what do you like to draw. This description will be presented next to your artwork”. Katie responded: “Hey, I’m Katie, and I have been doing art for a few years now. I started off drawing people and outfits, then began to draw animals and backgrounds, which has been a lot of fun. 🙂 I kind of put a bit of everything in here to show what I’ve been working on!”. She then added “Hi this is Katie (the real one, not the one in the description for the show), I just wanted to say thanks for being my favorite art teacher ever. You helped me grow so much as an artist and I always loved going to class. Thank you Mr. Chris!!”. He responded: “Thank you so much Katie! Your art is so lovely! Wow – I just realized you are just 14 years old!? Your artwork really packs a punch for your age. Great work Katie!! Can’t wait to show you the art show. – Mr. Chris”.

This evening I stopped off at Home Depot to pick up painting supplies (see photo to the right). I plan to only purchase the paint and primer from Sherwin Williams as their other stuff is so expensive. The bill came to over $300, but now I have everything from drop cloth to paint roller! I just need to stop by Sherwin Williams at some point and pick up the paint and primer and I’m good to go. Anthony should be here tomorrow to do the trim work and Sunday will be “go time” for me…

I had enough of the YouTube ads (they seem to be getting worse), so we ponied up the roughly $10 a month for premium so that we don’t have to see them. Katie is over the moon because now she can listen to YouTube music without the ad interruptions.

Amazon had a metal detector on sale for 40% off so I bought it today. Bobby seemed to really like it when we went out with the little “wand” metal detector we have. This one is much easier to use as you don’t need to bend down, it just skims over the surface like a mop. I emailed both the city and country of Courtenay to see if it was okay, and they said that they had no regulations regarding metal detectors. One more thing that we can do together on Daddy/Son Days. Good source of exercise and a chance to get out as well…
