Bobby is still not feeling well, so he stayed home from school today. This is his first “sick” day while in Courtenay. Hopefully we will not have a continuation of the “sick” day issue we had in Chapel Hill. Katie was not feeling well this evening, so she might not be going to school tomorrow. Both my wife and I have been fighting off this “bug” or whatever it is as well.
I drove to Sherwin Williams at noon to pick up the paint for our garage ceiling and walls. On the way I had an impulse decision to turn onto Vanier and go past the high school. Low and behold, a couple of houses past the school was a property for sale by owner (see photo to the right). I took down the MLS# and Phone Number and investigated this info when I got home.
Well, as it turns out, they want $1,300,000 for the property. It had a 4 bedroom and 3 bath house, with about 1.3 acres. The price is not the issue though, zoning is… I contacted the City of Courtenay and they told me that it was zoned as “residential”, so I could not set up a coffee shop like I want! Now there are two businesses across the street that are in a commercial zone, but it appears that they are these two locations only. I’m not sure why. I guess this is the reason that there are no coffee shops or restaurants or “Whatever” near Vanier High School…
I should also note that I got quite a deal on the paint at Sherwin Williams. They had a 30% off sale going (today was the last day) and he gave me the contractor rate, so it came to only about $278 for 5 gallons of ceiling and wall paint and a gallon of trim paint! I was expecting to pay over $500! Quite the deal!
They are looking for workers at Huband Elementary so my wife volunteered to help out with the salad bar.
