Day #5396 – (Mon., Oct. 14, 2024) – Canadian Thanksgiving Day!

It’s Canadian Thanksgiving Day today! It’s not the big extravaganza that the US Thanksgiving Day is, but a time to be thankful for all you have. It tends to revolve around the evening meal, rather than a long weekend of food, football, and shopping.

Bobby and I took the garage out to the road as today is “Garbage Day” as well. We opted for once a month pickup as most of our garbage tends to be of the recycling type. The wheel fell off the garbage can, so we will have to exchange it for the one we have in the barn.

I went to Walmart today to see their selection of microwaves for the garage, where we plan to have “Movie Nights”. Low and behold, was I ever surprised to learn that they had a fire and will be closed for a while. Rumors say they will open on Friday, but we’ll see…

My wife and Katie boarded the ferry this afternoon and worked their way back to Courtenay for Thanksgiving Dinner! The only option in stores seemed to be cooking a huge turkey, or a simpler option, turkey tv dinners, so I opted for the latter. I also picked up some butterscotch ripple ice cream, pumpkin pie, and my wife’s favorite, “cabbage rolls” (see photo to the left).

2024-10-14 - Butterscotch Ripple Ice Cream

For some reason, my childhood favorite ice cream, butterscotch ripple (see photo to the right), has lost a lot of market share. I told the family about it, and have been looking for it since we moved back to Canada. I thought that the fact that I could not find it in the United States was because there were other more popular flavors there, so I was surprised that it would be hard to find in Canada as well. I have looked for it at Walmart and Thrifty Foods, so was I ever surprised that I found it at the Great Canadian Superstore the other day.

The projector for the garage came today. We opted for the more expensive version that is preloaded with Netflix and Prime, etc… Apparently other projectors are not “licensed” to show these streaming services, so you need to get a “Fire Stick” or whatever…
