It’s a “Teacher Work Day” today so both kids are off school!
This afternoon my wife and I drove them to Morrison Creek to see the “Salmon Spawning” (see photo to the right). We went in my 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid and the kids prefer it now that it is newer than the van.
There were a number of dead fish in the creek so the smell was quite overpowering. We’re not sure if they actually laid their eggs, or died trying to do so. The smell reminded me of the mink ranches we had near our house growing up. They fed the mink fish, which I guess is great for fur. There were a number of seagulls swarming around looking for a free meal!
You can see the salmon jumping, and the seagulls swarming, in the short little video to the left.
On the drive back home we stopped off at McDonalds! Bobby got two Happy Meals and they came in a little “Trick or Treat” bucket in honor of Halloween. Katie wanted a large fries. My wife and I didn’t get anything.
This afternoon my wife put the seat covers I ordered a while back on the seats in the 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid. It was quite a challenge to put them on, but the coloring of the covers is beautiful and it will help to keep the car clean and preserve the value.
This evening I took Katie out for a drive to Starbucks. This is effectively this month’s Daddy/Daughter Day. She has drafted a letter to send to the teacher who is managing the Vanier Art Club. I see that there is a “Hopeful Almost Panera Bread” type of coffee shop called “Benino Italian Cafe & Gelato” across the street from Smitty’s Restaurant. I’ll have to try it out sometime.
