Day #5422 – (Sat., Nov. 9, 2024) – Bobby’s First Fish!

Bobby and I went to get haircuts from Cassie for the first time today. She lives next door to the farm on Burns Road that we were thinking of purchasing a little over a year ago when we were first thinking of moving to the Comox Valley. I got to talk to her husband, who was a 3rd generation commercial fisherman before he quit and became a Walmart manager.

Bobby and I went fishing this afternoon at Marshall Lake this afternoon for a Daddy/Son Day. Marshall Lake is just up the road from the Canadian Tire in Courtenay. We stopped off at 7-Eleven on the way so that Bobby could get some bubble gum, something he has been asking for as of late.

Once we got to Marshall Lake, the place I scouted out before was already occupied, so we kept on the trail till we came to a clearing. A man and his son were leaving so we took their spot. They said that they caught 11 trout! Well, we lost some hooks, and got a lot of seaweed, but Bobby managed to hook a nice huge trout (see photo to the left). If you click on the photo you can see the action caught on video!

I asked Bobby if he wanted to throw the trout back, but he opted to take it home. I showed Bobby how to clean it, and we cooked it up in the “air fryer” in the Barn Suite! We then took it to the main house for the whole family to enjoy! Everyone lived it, but Bobby and Katie complained about there being too many small bones in it.

This evening Amanda, our realtor, invited us to join a Christmas cookie exchange. We need to purchase some cookie cutters as we left most of ours back in North Carolina. Everyone makes 10 dozen cookies, delivers them to Amanda, and she repackages them and delivers 10 dozen different ones to you.
