Today was my “first attempt” at making a Christmas Bell for the chickens (see photo to the right). It’s mostly made out of popcorn popped in the microwave, with the leftover kernels, and some flax seed. The binding agent is molasses in this case, but I’m going to add peanut butter as well for the final product, but I didn’t have any on hand today. I put it in the air fryer to solidify, but I think leaving it out to air dry might be a better solution to it binding better. The chickens liked it, but were wary of the shape. One of them gave it a good kick and it went flying, so for the final product I’m going to suspend it via a string from the top of the coop. I will put a little bell on it so it “tinkles” each time it is pecked!
I picked up Bobby and Katie after school today. We then opened up Day #2 of the Advent Calendar! The special gift today, along with some chocolate, and a coupon for a McDonald’s cheeseburger, was a Kinder surprise. Katie at the chocolate but gave the toy to Bobby (see photo to the left).
Katie didn’t feel like Tae Kwon Do this evening, but my wife did take Katie to orchestra up the Island Highway… I picked her up at 6 pm and we went for a drive and Daddy/Daughter Chat Day. I picked up a small black coffee at McDonalds, but she didn’t want anything. She was asking about crafting a letter to Caroline to tell her that she would be interested in taking a job on her farm if one was still available. I told her that I would help her craft a template, and here it is:
Hi Caroline,
For starters, I’m so sorry for not reaching out to you sooner. I’ve wanted to, but didn’t really know how to write this letter or what to say.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for taking me out during the summer to see the farm where you work. It was great to spend time with you and your friend and to see all the wonderful animals.
You mentioned at the time the possibility of me perhaps working on the farm at some point. In all honesty, with the new move, and school on the horizon, and viola lessons, and all the other “stuff” on my plate, I just felt a bit overwhelmed.
Having said that, I feel much more settled in to Courtenay now. I have a good handle on my classes and have met some great friends. As such, things have calmed down and I would be interested in helping out on the farm if you could still use me.
I understand that you probably have already found someone else to help out since it’s been a while since we last talked. I just wanted you to know that I’m here and available if something comes up.
Thanks so much for thinking of me.
Merry Christmas!
Your Neighbor,
Katie
