Day #5475 – (Wed., Jan. 1, 2025) – Happy New Years!

The Scottish family down the street ushered in the New Year with bagpipes and drums (see photo to the right). The father, from Scotland, played the bagpipes, accompanied by his daughters on the drums. The mother is from Courtenay.

Our whole family, the four of us, went to see the 11:45 am showing of “Wicked” (see photo to the left) at the Landmark Cinemas in Courtney this afternoon. The kids each received a $30 gift card in their Advent Calendar for Christmas, and we purchased some food for them with these cards. They didn’t want to share a large popcorn, so they each got the large popcorn deal, which means free popcorn refills. They each got a refill of popcorn to take home with them.

It was a good movie, but raised a lot of questions. Apparently this is “Part #1” of the “Wicked” musical, and the woman who was to eventually become the “Wicked Witch of the West” was in name only… She was at the end of Part #1 one of the heroine’s of the movie. It will be interesting to see how she eventually becomes “Wicked”. Oh, and the monkeys with wings? At the end of Part #1 they are trying to kill her. At some point they become her allies!

The family had another tournament with the “Young vs. Old” this evening. In other words, my wife and I against Katie and Bobby. We are all gradually getting a bit better. I do need to level the table and staple that loose side pocket flap though…
