Day #416 (Wed., Feb. 23, 2011) – Our Secret Welk Weapon
I can hear Katie as soon as I arrive home from work and open the front door. She is welcoming daddy home. It’s funny that when I come upstairs to see her, she doesn’t know what to do. She feels very awkward and will often point at something and say “ta” to distract me.
Katie was very fussy in her high chair this evening so I brought out our secret weapon…Lawrence Welk! She was sitting on my lap mesmerized by what she was seeing. She was particularly interested in this guitar and violin duet. For some reason she found this very funny and started laughing. I actually went on to another clip, then back to this one, and yes, she laughed some more. Not sure why she found it so funny…it’s a mystery.
The photo to the left shows yet another addition to Katie’s collection of books. My wife got a huge bag of these “mini books” at a recent consignment sale. We have a video of Katie opening up the plastic bag, taking out a book, examining it, tossing it aside, and grabbing the next book. As you can tell there are quite a few books…so it took her a while.
9:09pm and Katie is in her high chair. My wife will massage her gums and Katie loves it! She will actually open her mouth to have my wife put her fingers inside!
9:15pm – Katie is back in her high chair and screaming. Out comes Lawrence Welk and she calmed down automatically. She really liked it when Sandi and Sally sang “Anything Goes”.
9:40pm – Katie was standing up at my LazyBoy listening to Lawrence Welk. She stood up and took a few steps before falling down. She will be walking before you know it.
It seems that if Lawrence Welk is on television Katie will stay close to the living room and not roam around the hallway or kitchen. Good to know…
Katie pulled the green pillow off the sofa this evening and was all over it. I guess she has found a new friend.
