Day #590 (Tue., Aug 16, 2011) – The Upstairs Locks
Katie has been up since just after 5am. It is now 6:52am and I’m still trying to put her to bed. She’s had two cups of warm milk, some blackberries, and some cherries…but she just won’t go to bed. My mother-in-law is up and I asked her if she wanted to try to put her to bed and she just shrugged her shoulders. Nobody knows what to do with our wild little chipmunk… Eventually she got tired and laid her head on the arm of my LazyBoy. I took her to bed and gave her a book and she was soon sleeping. I left the baby monitor with my mother-in-law and went to bed around 7:30am…

Katie has started to lock the door to our bedroom. If she happens to shut the door behind her and lock it we will not be able to get in. We were thinking of replacing the locks but the guy at Lowe’s told me that you can unlock them from the otherside via a screwdriver, and showed me how. When I got home we didn’t have any screwdrivers that fit, so I went back to Lowe’s to get a set of files to file them down. Mission accomplished. We now have two screwdrivers that we can use to unlock the doors if Katie happens to lock herself in.
My mother-in-law and I took Katie to the park near Lochmere this evening. The two main activities for Katie were the sand and the swing (as is the norm these days). There was a dog there that Katie was very interested in…I gave him a drink of water from a nearby pail.
WHAT I LEARNED TODAY

1) Katie will now not be able to lock herself in the bedroom…we can open the locks from the other side.
