2011-08-27 - Enjoying the Hurricane

Hurricane Irene arrived in North Carolina early this morning. It hit Ocracoke Beach (where we spent our honeymoon) and New Bern pretty hard, but we are relatively safe here in the Raleigh area. We got a bit of rain, but not much more. We dodged this bullet…

Katie was up early and after her usual dose of milk and “playing” I put her to bed. My mother-in-law was up but my wife is sleeping in. We did do a bit of a Skype session with my mother. I wanted to let her know that we were okay in case we lost power due to the hurricane later in the day.

How did Katie react to Hurricane Irene? No worries, mate! You can see her enjoying the patio in the photo to the left.

I got out the washable markers and dayplanner plotter that I got at the Dollar Store the other day and Katie and I played with it a bit. Katie was fascinated with taking the caps off the markers and putting them back on more than actually drawing with them. I saw that I accidentally marked my hand…but couldn’t wash it off. Washable…ha… Stick with Crayola rather than the “cheapie” versions you get at the Dollar Store. Avoid their “washable” markers and especially their useless crayons.

WHAT I LEARNED TODAY

1) Katie “weathered” Hurricane Irene today.
