Day #685 (Sat., Nov 19, 2011) – Time To Celebrate…

My wife submitted her thesis last night so we can effectively start to celebrate now. We started off by taking Katie to Bond Park this morning. She enjoyed feeding the ducks but I think she enjoys gathering stones and throwing them in the water even more.

Katie slept late during her nap this afternoon so it was too late to go to the park. We decided that we would just pack her up and do some shopping this evening. One of the main things that we need to take care of is to get a Christmas tree. We were to Lowe’s a while back and saw a tree that we liked. Our plan is to find the tree that we like and buy it on Amazon…as it is usually cheaper. If we order it in a couple of days we will probably receive it by Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, and can trim it then.

Well, we never did get to Wal-Mart. We went to Home Depot and saw that the tree we liked so much at Lowe’s was $20 less so we decided to just go and buy it. Since this particular “GE 7.5’ Fraser Fir Tree with Clear Lights” is not sold by Amazon and was selling for $279 we decided to just go ahead and get it. We also picked up a number of “Shatterproof Ornaments” to adorn the tree.

Katie really enjoyed running around Home Depot (see photo to the right). So much so that we eventually decided to get a cart for her to “strap her in” while we shopped for all these Christmas decorations.

The Christmas tree wouldn’t fit totally into the trunk of my Camry, but I had a rope to secure it in place. We don’t have too far to drive to go home at any rate.

The next stop was Best Buy. Since we are planning to go to the Asheville Zoo tomorrow we thought that we would check out the portable DVD players for our car. Katie can start to whine on long trips and I’ve heard such great things about these little devices. One guy I knew said that he actually had a hard time getting kids out of the car with one of these units.

The second guy we talked to at Best Buy was very knowledgeable. He knew exactly what the best deal was and why we should get this player over the other. In the end he said that the Phillips PD9000 was the best deal. I logged into the internet while at Best Buy and saw that it was selling for $115…as opposed to $135 at Best Buy. We decided to order it from Amazon and try to deal with Katie in the old fashioned way during tomorrow’s trip.
