Day #690 (Thu., Nov 24, 2011) – Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day today so mommy and daddy are off work. Time to entertain the chipmunk. Just before I took her out for her morning adventure we watched a bit of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade on tv. We left just before Santa arrived…so that will be something to watch when we get home…

I took Katie to the park near Lochmere while my wife cooked the turkey. We haven’t been here in a while. There were a lot more people at the park than I thought there would be. Katie was in the swing for a bit, down the slide once, in the sandbox for a bit, and ran for a bit longer. All in all a well balanced trip to the park.

We had a great Thanksgiving Dinner (see photo to the right).

Katie seems fine but she has been coughing soon after we put her to bed so we are keeping an eye on her. Rather than take her out again tonight we decided that we would put up the Christmas tree. This normally happens the day after Thanksgiving, but we have plenty of ornaments to put on tomorrow. This will be entertaining for Katie and she will be less fussy that she didn’t get out tonight.

It’s a fabulous looking artificial Christmas tree (cost us almost $300) in three separate sections. Real trees of this size go for $60-80…so this will save us $ in no time. They are right when they say that it only takes about 15 minutes to assemble…but about 2 hours to “fluff” out the branches so it looks natural. Need to keep Katie out of the box so that it will be in good shape to store the tree once we need to take it down.

We have an electric star to put on top of the tree but the peg was a bit too large to put into the hole. I got out my files while my wife watched Katie and filed away. Nice to have all the various tools handy that you will need for jobs like this. In the end I filed it down and put it on top of the tree. An added bonus is that this star changes colors over time…so it is really pretty.

Katie loves her new Christmas tree. Once we had it up she started to chat and chat and chat about it. We have all that on video. I guess it’s quite something to have this big green thing in your living room when you think about it…especially at this age. Katie found out where the tree is plugged into the wall and wants to “unplug” it, so we will have to keep our eyes open to keep her away from the outlet. The outlet has a guard on it so that she will not get hurt, but who wants to deal with the tree being in various states of plugged in…not plugged in…over the course of the holidays…

Tomorrow we will put the ornaments on the tree. That’s enough activity for one day.
