When Katie got up this morning one thing was on her mind. Creating a boxed playset like the one she has for Batman…only this time for her Ocean Toys. My wife created the box with two compartments…it was daddy’s turn to create the book and the map. Right after breakfast we got to it.
In regards to the map I taped six pieces of paper together. On one side I drew a river, swamp, and part of an ocean. On the other side I drew a huge ocean to put all her ocean animals. I then folded it up into a size small enough to put into the box.
In regards to the accompanying book I had Katie help me. I had her pick out some ocean animals to go into the story and choose one to be the main character of the book. She chose the whale which she named “Gard”. So, we created a story in which Gard the whale was lonely and was looking for his friends. They were not here or there (I had Katie tell me various ocean objects that he looked behind). The story wrapped up by them jumping out and yelling “Happy Birthday” to Gard. This book went into the box as well (see photo to the right).
