Day #1659 (Sun., July 20, 2014) – Monkey Joe’s
My wife is feeling a bit better today than she was yesterday. I went to Harris-Teeter just before noon to pick up some more potato salad for her. Got a rotisserie chicken, cole slaw, etc. as well.
When my wife tries to nap our “little horse” Katie will often wake her by running down to the bathroom. I thought the best way to remedy this today was to have Daddy/Daughter Day #17. I decided to take Katie to an indoor inflatable gym. There doesn’t seem to be any in Chapel Hill, but there is one in Cary. It’s called Monkey Joe’s and is near where the old Border’s bookstore used to be.
So, I took Katie to Monkey Joe’s in Cary this afternoon. The wait was horrible…about 20 minutes to even get in (due to the need for people to fill out a disclaimer form). Katie climbed up a couple of the more challenging slides (see photo to the right) no problem but was too scared to slide down. On the first ride a black guy had to go rescue her. Katie indicated to me that she might go down them again if I came with her, so I bought a pair of socks for $2.50. She went up the second ride no problem but once again was too scared to come down. I climbed up with my new white socks on and we slide down together. She cried and told me that she was a “scared cat”. We had a long chat about being scared and I told her that it was okay and that daddy got scared from time to time as well.
Katie played on some of the more “tame” rides. We were there for over two and a half hours. As we were leaving she told me that the best part of the day was seeing “Money Joe” (a guy dressed up in a monkey suit).
When then went to DQ for some chicken strips, fries and a strawberry sundae. We effectively shared the meal and she ate quite a bit of it. On the drive home she kept telling me she was not tired but just before we got off the interstate she was out. My wife and I decided to leave her in the car to sleep for about an hour. She had a tantrum once she woke up as my wife refused to carry her into the house.
