This morning I went to Trader Joe’s for supplies as we are having the Bosnian family over for dinner this evening. The trucks got stuck on the highway due to everyone leaving Florida because of Hurricane Irma, so a lot of food could not make it to the store. Fortunately, there was enough of what we needed to have the dinner tonight. My wife will be making a potato dish, and we have finger food like mushroom turnovers and small dumplings. They apparently love their sweets so we picked up some of those small frozen squares, a fruit tart, and a chocolate cake. Getting something that the kids will like is always a problem so I picked up two cheese pizzas. That is sure to be a hit with the younger ones.
The Haunted Houses at Trader Joe’s are back (see photo to the left). I picked up two of them. If you don’t pick them up as soon as you see them chances are they will not be there when you go back.
The plan was to pick the Bosnian family up at 4 pm (they don’t have a car), but their boy, Omar, was still napping. My wife eventually went to pick them up around 5:30 pm. We had a great time. He is a novelist and was quite curious about all things America. The main reason they are here is so that their whole family can improve their English.
Katie gave us a little piano recital. She did a good job. It’s a good experience for her to perform in public whenever she can. Bobby enjoyed running around after the other kids. They all enjoyed the trampoline we moved to the living room and they made a play house area out of our red cardboard bricks.
The kids ate mostly pizza and sweets, which was pretty much expected. Their two daughters love chocolate and devoured the chocolate cake we got from Trader Joe’s.
I drove them home around 8 pm. It was hard to calm our kids down after so much active play.
