Day #4694 (Sat., Nov. 12, 2022) – Bobby Skates Alone!

Katie was not feeling well this morning so my wife took Bobby for his violin lesson without her.  I made a big mess of turkey bacon in the air fryer for everyone to enjoy.  While they were away Katie and I watched a Netflix show about “Ancient Mysteries” while we munched on turkey bacon.

Bobby has been asking about going to the Hillsborough rink for skating for the past few days.  Unfortunately, Katie was not feeling well this morning, so it looked like this would be another day in which he didn’t get his wish.  This afternoon he said that he wouldn’t mind going by himself, so when the rink opened for evening skate at 6:30 pm I took him.  I guess you could call this Daddy/Son Day #58.

He was a bit hesitant at first.  He went onto the ice and then came back to sit with me on the bench.  He said that there were too many people, and I thought we would be heading home soon, but he said he would try it again.  He went around the rink once by himself and when he returned he had a whole new outlook on the experience.  He gained confidence the more he skated and eventually he went around the rink five times without stopping.  He was holding onto the boards at first, but soon was not holding on to them hardly ever (see photo to the right).

After about an hour on the rink I asked him if he wanted to go home and he said that he wanted to stay till it closed.  I texted my wife and she felt that it might be too much for him for one day, so I gave him another fifteen minutes.  Soon he was taking off his skates saying that he wanted to go see Katie.  He misses his big sister and said that he wished she was here.  Next time…
