Day #4811 (Thu., Mar. 9, 2023) – Aria The New Horse!

On the drive to Glenwood this morning Bobby and I talked about his cough and how “penacillin”, the first antibiotic was discovered (although I was hazy on some of the details).  I looked it up when I got home and the inventor, Fleming, often described as a careless lab technician, returned from a two-week vacation to find that a mold had developed on an accidentally contaminated staphylococcus culture plate. Upon examination of the mold, he noticed that the culture prevented the growth of staphylococci.

Bobby made a set of claws out of paper and double-sided sticky tape this afternoon.

I took the kids riding this afternoon.  Katie got to ride on the new horse “Aria” (see photo to the right), and Bobby rode “M&M”. Aria is a calm sweet horse and Bobby had no problems with M&M today.  One of the ladies I was sitting next to during the training said that Rainy (another horse) doesn’t like other horses and this is an issue if she is around them.

I asked Laura, the trainer, how much Aria would cost and she figured about $8,000.  She said that Tonka was “bullet proof” and was worth about $100,000.  Hard to figure out if she was kidding or not, but she went on to say that you could land a helicopter next to her and she would not move.  Apparently a good quality for a horse to have.
