Day #5326 – (Mon., Aug. 5, 2024) – Build And Float A Boat!

I dropped my wife and kids off at the Comox Nautical Days Festival again this afternoon. Parking is so difficult at these fairs and festivals it is better to have me just be the chauffeur so others can enjoy the activities. One of the big highlights of today was a boat race, but first, there were antique cars to look at. You can see the kids in front of an old ambulance in the photo to the right.

Speaking of old cars, there certainly are a lot of them here in the Comox Valley. When I say “old”, I mean antique. It looks like a lot of old retired men who now have disposable income are trying to relive their youth with a car that meant so much to them when they were younger. There are also old cars here too, ones that aren’t antique, but probably much loved by their owners nonetheless.

Next up at the Comox Nautical Days Festival was “Build And Float A Boat” (see photo to the left). Not the official name, but the one I gave it. People made their own boats for three hours this morning using supplies donated by a local hardware store. They then tried to float them! Some worked, and some were hilariously “flawed”, for lack of a better word.

Maureen said that there was some insulation in the “old shed” next to the barn, so I wandered in there this afternoon. There was insulation, but it was the white foam kind, not the type we will be using in our garage. I did find a workbench, cabinets, electrical cords, and some power tools that I can use though!

The front of our house was in deep need of some “weed wacking” this evening, so I took our new Ryobi wacker out and it did quite a good job. The battery died about half way through it, so I will have to go back and finish the job off tomorrow. I’m surprised at how fast it will cut weeds. The only problem I have is the area next to the fence is on quite a steep incline, so that’s hard for me to navigate given my knee situation.
