Day #5363 – (Wed., Sept. 11, 2024) – First Martial Arts Class

Katie seems to be the only person sick in our home these days. She was home, Bobby went to school, and my wife and I went about our day…

Today was “clean up the primer” day. I went over the various areas of the garage in which certain sections were missed, or needed to be sanded down.

Bobby has three “30 minute” breaks for exercise at Huband Elementary. A morning recess, a lunch, and an afternoon recess. We are really excited about the fact that he is getting so much physical activity into his schedule. Perhaps this is to counteract all the screen time that kids are getting these days?

My wife took Bobby to his first martial arts class in Courtenay this evening. It was at the Native Sons Hall in downtown Courtenay in a “Free Span” log cabin in which the logs are vertical and not horizontal. The instructor is a young black belt. You can see him and Bobby playing the game of “get the knee caps” in the photo to the right.

The instructor let Bobby keep his yellow belt. It seems that all the boys get along well and there is a sense of comradery, which is great! Bobby really enjoys like the class, so he will be going back. As I’ve said many times, at this stage you have to make it fun for the kids. They can learn the more technical aspects of kicking and punching at a later date, but if they quit, they will never get to that stage.
