Day #5426 – (Wed., Nov. 13, 2024) – Mexico City Flight

The big flight to Mexico City is today! My wife and I left for the Comox Airport at 4:30 am this morning. After dropping me off, my wife drove home, as the van is not ready yet. I had a coffee in the waiting area, then used my umbrella to board the plane in the pouring rain.

After arriving in Vancouver I had to find the connection to Houston, and it felt like I was walking there, not flying. I stopped off and got some Mexican Pesos and US Dollars for tips, and by the time I arrived at the gate, the plane was boarding.

On the flight to Houston I purchased some “deluxe” earbuds, a hummus wrap, and some Twizzlers. The lady next to me was from Yellowknife and was flying to Houston to visit her daughter. I started to watch the 2024 movie “Twisters” but didn’t finish it.

On the flight from Houston to Mexico City, the lady next to me had a dog in a carrier at her feet (see photo to the left). It was so quiet I didn’t realize it was there till she unzipped the bag.

Mexico City is HUGE. It seemed to take forever to land after seeing the city below us. I later read that it is 13x larger in size than Vancouver!

I used “Google Translate” to get some answers to questions from the locals at the airport who could not speak English. I managed to eventually find my way to “Gate 6”, where the shuttles pick up. I then called the WeEnjoy hotel and they sent out a shuttle to pick me up in 10 minutes. I tipped the driver 100 Pesos, which is what Bing’s Copilot recommended.

I was exhausted by the time I arrived at the hotel and crashed on the bed. I watched some Disney+ Show about “Rick Rubin & Paul McCartney” as I drifted off to sleep!

Back home in Comox I learned that Bobby came to the car after school with rosy red cheeks. This was due to the “tag game” that they were playing. It’s great all the opportunities he is getting to exercise here in the Comox Valley!

had a two hour bath tonight. He mentioned that he wants to go fishing again, so I’ll put that on the list of things to do once I recover from this Mexico City trip!

Katie had a violin group class this evening. Katie apparently doesn’t like it too much as she feels that nobody wants to be her friend.

The mechanic called my wife took an Uber to pick it up. It needed a new battery! We also need to get winter tires for the van at some point!
